Amazing Female Leaders Lessons in Life
November 17, 2014

It has certainly been an eventful few months!  what a surprise i had when i found out that i had been nominated for the Telstra Business Women’s Award 2014, thanks to Di Forrester for the nomination and also Emma Issacs @ Business Chicks, Emma it was amazing to share the experience with you as a fellow nominee!  Since then, it has been a journey of epic proportions.  I can honestly say that i have been in the presence of some of the most remarkable female minds, women doing outstanding things in varying sectors across the business world; it makes me feel humble and so proud of us all.

So we started with the application…….all I can say is that it was like a thesis for a PHD!  Parts of it were so overwhelming I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  I had to dig so deep to be able to answer some really intimidating and probing questions.  It felt very weird to speak about my success in a way that wasn’t self deprecating, but instead sincere!  I had this acknowledgement all laid out in my acceptance speech, which by the way, you had to write, 2 in fact, one for your sector and one for NSW – made me laugh at the time, felt a little presumptuous but having seen those women up there, i bet they were glad we were made to.  The pressure was astounding, so much expectation from your support network, the other entrants, winners!  Some of the stories we heard during the evening were so so emotive, such incredible achievements had been made, boundaries shifted.

I really am grateful that i had the opportunity for this experience, proud of myself too, to be aligned with women of such magnitude.  I hope in all sincerity that I can go ahead and forge relationships with many of them so that we can amplify the great work and continue to knock down walls!  I am evermore determined to continue my work with The Hunger Project – it was so inspiring to see some of the amazing work people had achieved, and interestingly, there were quite a few people there that had been on THP trips, which only confirmed to me what an amazing organisation it is.  The Telstra Business Women’s Awards give us such a platform to reach out, it gives us huge voices to make big noises about things we’re passionate for.

I am ever grateful to my network of support, you all contribute so much and I couldn’t do many of things I do if I didn’t have you around me – thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Thank you to all of you that believed in me, my messages of support on the night were so beautiful, it was amazing to see them in the ‘bright lights’.

All of us in our own unique ways rock, and we are all capable of achieving amazing things, particularly if we unite.
